Sometimes your habits or mentality can affect your health. We can think in a positive light or we can think in a negative light towards something, someone, or any aspect in our life.
An easy analogy is buying coffee every day versus making it yourself because it shows a financial impact over time that can be easily understood by many.
- If I were to go and buy 1 cup of medium coffee per day say at $2.00 per cup I would spend $14.00 per week and $56.00 per month which would lead to $728 per year!!!
- If I were to make my coffee at home for $0.50 per cup I would spend $3.50 a week and $14.00 per month which would lead to $182 per year!!!
- $728 bought coffee - $182 homemade coffee = $546 Difference or potential money that could've been saved. What would you do with an extra $546???
The point is that this idea of creating habits in a positive way (making your own coffee) versus a negative way (buying coffee everyday) greatly impacts your finances over the course of a year. $546 may not seem like much to some people, but remember we are only talking about coffee here! Imagine the habits we have in our life that cost more than a cup of coffee that really add up over time!
Everyday we want to strive to be better versions of ourselves, but what are some ways we can get out there and JUST DO IT?
1. Think about your day.
2. Jot down on a notebook, on your phone, or laptop your daily happenings from food to finances to stress level to sleep to personal growth to work to relaxation time to family time, etc. Literally the list can be exhaustive.
3. Choose 1 or 2 things that you feel are some things you need to change for the positive in your life.
4. Track those 1 or 2 things for 7 days and see the impact it really has on your life and what you could be doing with the difference.
5. Are these 1 or 2 things affecting you positively or negatively? How can we make a realistic change to change those habits?
6. Come up with and write down a plan of action to reach those goals. Track your progress and even share with someone to help keep you accountable.
7. Once you feel that change has been successful, pick another habit you feel you should change. Be honest and realistic with yourself.
8. Know that it is ok to "buy a cup of coffee" here and there, but the point is to create healthier habits to become a better version of you!
What are some other examples?
1. Work out 1 day a week then build to 2 then 3...
2. Smoke 7 cigarettes a day then 6 then 5 then 4....
3. Eat 1 fruit a day then 2 then 3...
4. Eat out 5 days a week then 4 then 3....
5. Plan healthy, nutritionally balanced meals every week and get the groceries to meet those needs.
6. Take 30 minutes a day to read a devotional, read a personal growth book or listen to an audio to build knowledge and self-confidence.
7. Smile and say hi to at least one stranger a day.
8. Instead of getting frustrated and upset with a store clerk or customer service, smile and thank them - wish them a good day.
9. Volunteer to give back.
10. Spend 30 minutes one on one with your kids every day to give them that quality time whether it's around the dinner table or going for a walk. Talk and share.
